Connectivity without a identity file

MoneroSim exists because buying a SIM card in most of the world now means handing over a passport. More than 150 countries have mandatory registration laws, and the databases they create are permanent, widely accessible and regularly abused. There is very little evidence they reduce crime.

What we sell

Prepaid mobile data on tier-one partner networks in more than 200 countries, delivered as an eSIM profile. You buy a balance in US dollars, data is deducted per megabyte at the local rate, and nothing expires. There is no phone number, deliberately, because a number is the strongest identifier a network can attach to a person.

What we know about you

A hash of your recovery token, your balance, and the usage records needed to bill data correctly. We do not have your name, your email address unless you volunteered one, or any document. If you paid in Monero we do not even have a payment trail that points anywhere.

This is not a policy we could quietly change our minds about. The information was never collected, so there is nothing in a database to hand over, sell or lose in a breach.

The honest limitations

We cannot recover a lost recovery token, because holding anything that would let us prove an eSIM belongs to you would defeat the design. Mobile networks still know which tower your device is attached to, because that is how packets reach you. And a card payment is less private than Monero, which is why we say so at checkout rather than in the footer.

Who buys this

Journalists and researchers working where registration is enforced. People leaving situations where a tracked phone is a danger. Frequent travellers who are tired of expiry dates and airport queues. And a large group who simply object, on principle, to the idea that using maps in a foreign city should require showing a passport.
