An eSIM Argentina plan gets you online from the moment you land at Ezeiza, without queuing at a phone store with your passport. Install it at home, switch it on when you arrive, and pay only for the data you use. This page covers your options, what a local SIM asks for, coverage from Buenos Aires to Patagonia, and how to set up before you fly.
Do you need an eSIM for Argentina?
An eSIM Argentina plan is the simplest choice for most trips, but you have three main options.
- Roam on your U.S. plan. Nothing to install and your number keeps working. AT&T and Verizon daily passes cost $12 a day, so a two-week trip used every day comes to $168 per line.
- Buy a local prepaid SIM or eSIM. Claro, Personal and Movistar sell prepaid lines to visitors, with a local number, after a passport check.
- Use a data eSIM. You install it before you leave, keep your U.S. line for calls and texts, and use the eSIM for data.
eSIM Argentina or local SIM: what each one asks for
Local lines in Argentina are registered to an identity document, and visitors use their passport. Claro registers the line in store, and Argentina's official tourism site says it has no stand at Ezeiza. Personal has a stand in Ezeiza's departures area that takes cards only, and sells eSIMs online with a passport as the ID type.
A data eSIM that roams on local networks has no local line to register. MoneroSIM asks for no passport, no address and no account: you pay, receive a recovery token, and install the profile by QR code.
Coverage from Buenos Aires to Patagonia
MoneroSIM connects to Personal and Claro at 4G. Coverage is good in Buenos Aires and in towns along Ruta 40, and sparse on the Patagonian steppe between them. Argentina's tourism site describes Claro as having the widest reach, including Patagonia, and Personal as thinner in the south, so having both networks on one profile helps.
Download offline maps before long drives. Buenos Aires runs free city Wi-Fi, and most visitors use 6 to 10 GB over two weeks for maps, messaging and currency apps.

Questions about using data here
Will my phone work in Argentina?
Any carrier-unlocked phone with eSIM support works. The profile connects to Personal and Claro.
Do I need a passport for this eSIM?
No. Local SIMs from Claro, Personal and Movistar need your passport; MoneroSIM doesn't ask for ID.
Does it work in Patagonia?
In towns and along main routes, yes. Expect long gaps on the open steppe, so carry offline maps.
Do I have to activate anything on arrival?
No. Install once, turn on data roaming for the line, and it connects when you land. Billing starts only when data flows.
Can I use it for hotspot?
Yes, at the same rate with no surcharge.
Does it work if I cross into Chile or Brazil?
Yes. The same balance works there at each country's published rate.
What are the emergency numbers in Argentina?
911 for emergencies, 107 for an ambulance and 100 for the fire service, according to Buenos Aires city tourism.
