An eSIM Brazil plan gets you online the moment you land at Guarulhos or Galeão, without a store visit or a Brazilian tax number. Install it at home, switch it on when you arrive, and pay only for the data you use. This page covers your options, the CPF question for local SIMs, coverage across the country, and how to set up before you fly.
Do you need an eSIM for Brazil?
An eSIM Brazil plan is the simplest choice for most trips, but you have three main options.
- Roam on your U.S. plan. Nothing to install and your number keeps working. AT&T and Verizon daily passes cost $12 a day, so a two-week trip used every day comes to $168 per line.
- Buy a local prepaid SIM. Vivo, Claro and TIM sell prepaid lines with a Brazilian number. They are cheap, but registration can be the hard part.
- Use a data eSIM. You install it before you leave, keep your U.S. line for calls and texts, and use the eSIM for data.
eSIM Brazil or local SIM: the CPF question
Brazilian carriers normally register prepaid lines to a CPF, the national taxpayer number most visitors don't have. Some will register a visitor by passport instead: Claro and TIM have done this in their own stores, while Vivo's public guidance centres on the CPF. A SIM bought at a pharmacy or newsstand still has to be registered, and an unregistered line can stop working after a few days.
A data eSIM that roams on local networks has no local line to register. MoneroSIM asks for no CPF, no passport and no account: you pay, receive a recovery token, and install the profile by QR code.
Coverage across Brazil
MoneroSIM connects to Vivo and Claro. 5G is live in the big capitals, with solid 4G along the coast and thinner coverage in the interior. Expect little or no signal in the Amazon basin, the Pantanal and parts of national parks such as Chapada Diamantina, so download offline maps first.
Guarulhos and Galeão airports have free Wi-Fi if you need to finish setup on arrival. Rideshare, WhatsApp calls and maps add up: two weeks commonly runs 7 to 12 GB.
Crossing into Argentina
If you visit Iguazú Falls from both sides, or carry on south, the same MoneroSIM balance keeps working in Argentina at its published rate, with no new eSIM to buy. See Argentina for networks and prices.

Questions about using data here
Will my phone work in Brazil?
Any carrier-unlocked phone with eSIM support works. The profile connects to Vivo and Claro.
Do I need a CPF for this eSIM?
No. MoneroSIM asks for no CPF, passport or account.
Can a tourist buy a local SIM without a CPF?
Sometimes. Claro and TIM have registered visitors by passport in their own stores, but rules and staff vary, and an unregistered line can be cut off.
Do I have to activate anything on arrival?
No. Install once, turn on data roaming for the line, and it connects when you land. Billing starts only when data flows.
Can I use it for hotspot?
Yes, at the same rate with no surcharge.
Does it work in the Amazon?
Only near towns. Large parts of the Amazon basin and the Pantanal have no mobile signal.
What are the emergency numbers in Brazil?
190 for police, 192 for an ambulance (SAMU) and 193 for the fire brigade.
